AVE Statement on EPA/NHTSA Proposed Rule

The Alliance for Vehicle Efficiency (AVE) supports globally competitive, technology-neutral policies that will increase American jobs and innovation leadership. AVE has serious concerns about the proposed six-year freeze in fuel economy standards.

AVE, along with others engaged in the complex issue, will analyze over 900 pages of background in the proposed rule-making and offer more specific comments during the public comment process. The alliance will continue to advocate for federal and state fuel economy regulations that are meaningful and achievable. During this comment period, AVE will contend that advanced technologies developed by suppliers can improve fuel economy, reduce GHG emissions while improving vehicle safety.

This proposal is the next step in a process that has included input from hundreds of organizations and 200,000 individuals. Over the next few months, it will be critically important for industry, environmental and consumer stakeholders to work with state and federal agencies. Suppliers need a compromise that avoids protracted litigation and provides regulatory certainty.

As a policy organization for leading automotive suppliers focused on vehicle efficiency and emissions. AVE provides valuable information and data for policy makers during critical policy debates with significant impacts on jobs and the economy. AVE has been instrumental in efforts to clarify the complexities involved in regulating the U.S. light vehicle fleet. Its members are on the front lines of innovation in the mobility industry, providing technology that has contributed to consistent gains in achieving greater fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions.
